It’s that time of year where you bust out the ice skates, pull out that thick winter coat, and put on those mittens. Winter is upon us and so are the winter activities that people have been waiting for all year long. While snowboarding and ice skating are fun, let’s not forget how comforting having a night in after a long day can be. At first thought, many people associate staying in as drab and boring, but that’s not the case at all! Below we’ve put together a list of the best ways to enjoy winter nights at home.

1. Bake Your Favorite Cookies

Nothing tastes better than a freshly baked cookie accompanied by a nice glass of milk. Now is the perfect time to take out the golden family cookie recipe. If you’re not feeling that, you can always try something new! Test out your baking skills and make something you’ve never done before. 2. Have A Movie Marathon

Movie marathons are a great way to get a mental break from everything and just zone out on what you’re watching. You can’t go wrong with unwinding to some classics like Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings. If you prefer comedy, The Hangover is one that never fails to make people laugh. Whatever movies you decide to watch, just don’t forget the popcorn!

3. Do A Puzzle

Puzzles are an excellent way to exercise your brain! If you’re someone who likes a challenge, this is just the thing for you. For those who are beginners or may not have done many puzzles before, there are plenty that come in different levels. So don’t stress, you don’t have to start at a 5,000 piece puzzle by any means. Aside from the fun of putting them together, the excitement also comes from choosing the right one! You can get one of an animal, or plants, or even a scenic view. There are so many options to choose from!

4. Snuggle Up And Read

Picture this, your comfiest blanket wrapped around you, book in hand, and feeling the warmth of the fireplace going in front of you. Sounds like a cozy dream if you ask us. Sometimes simplicity is key. You don’t need to always be doing something crazy to have fun. Finish the book you started months ago or maybe pick up the one you’ve been wanting to read. There's a plethora of great books out catered to every genre, so you’re bound to find one that catches your eye.

5. Enjoy A Backyard Fire And Roast Marshmallows

Who doesn’t like some good ol’ roasted marshmallows on a cold night. You can even sweeten it up by making smores with them! This is a great activity for families with kids. Everybody will be able to spend quality time with each other, while still getting in some fresh air and enjoying a delicious treat. Make sure you have some nice chairs out to sit back and relax as the marshmallows are roasting! For those who don’t own a fire pit, you can still roast marshmallows over your stove and it’ll come out just as great.

6. Self Care Session

There is no better time than a night in to take care of yourself. Sometimes you need to take time alone and do what makes you happy! This could mean many things to different people. For some it could mean dancing to your favorite tunes and to others it could be running a hot bath while doing a face mask. Whatever the case may be, think about what makes you feel best and do it! A little self care goes a long way.

7. Game Night With Friends

A night in doesn’t have to mean being alone. For my extroverts out there, you can always bring the party in! Invite your closest friends and family over to have a game night. This is a great way to have fun and enjoy each other's company. The classic Monopoly game is a go-to for many. If you’re not into board games, you can switch it up and play Mafia where nothing is needed but the players. In this game, people pretend to be different characters and have to figure out who the killer is. Regardless of what games you play, it’ll be fun as long as you’re with friends and family.

As you can see, winter nights at home can be a blast with or without other people! Now that you have some ideas of what to do, pick your activity of choice and have fun. There are many winter nights left ahead of us to make use of.  Don't forget to stay cozy and stay saucy!
