Ending The First Quarter Of 2020 In The Comfort Of Our Own Homes. 🏡

Can you believe we’re ¼ of the way through 2020!? It’s been a rough year and it’s only March, but we’re here to keep the positivity up! Here are some good things that have happened so far:

1. KPOP Foods turned 3 in February! 🥳

Happy 3rd Birthday to KPOP Foods!

Can you believe we’re basically a toddler now? We can’t either. 🥺 Our company has accomplished so much in such little time! We launched 3 new sauces after the original KPOP Sauce, launched the irresistible Sea Snacks, created saucy sets for you and your loved ones, and we are in all of Gelson’s Markets and Bristol Farms! We couldn’t have done any of that without you, our KPOP Fam.

You guys are our inspiration and what really kept us going, so thank you! ❤️

2. Korean Film, Parasite, won 4 Oscars out of its 6 nominations!! 🏆

4!! FOUR!!! Granted, 4 is an unlucky number in Korean culture … but this wasn’t luck, it was all hard work! Parasite director, Bong Joon-Ho, took home an award for: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Foreign Language Film. This movie deserves all of these awards and more!!

If you haven’t seen the movie, this is a sign to go see it. Clear your calendar because we’re having a movie night together through FaceTime! 🍿

2B. Jjapaguri aka Ram-Don 🍝

Piggybacking off Parasite, we thought we would let you in on some statistics on this iconic dish from the movie!

This dish is made up of 2 instant noodle brands - Chapaghetti and Neoguri. This is a traditional comfort food, not meant to be expensive, however, in the movie, it is topped with an expensive sirloin cut steak (adding more to the underlying message of the movie).

After the Oscars, searches for "Ram-Don recipes" increased by a whopping 400% and searched for "Asian supermarket" increased by 350% in Australia and the US. Isn't it insane how influential this movie was?!

Anyways, we just thought this was a cool FYI.

    3. Dalgona Coffee aka Whipped Coffee Trend

Social distancing has got people whippin' it, whippin' it real good. Whippin' coffee that is! This trend started in South Korea as a means to combat boredom and stay connected via social media as a new internet challenge. Since then, it has taken over Youtube and TikTok as more people practice social distancing.

But what is Dalgona coffee? It is 1:1:1 part instant coffee, sugar, and hot water, whipped and poured over iced milk. The challenge comes in whipping the coffee. The goal is to whip it into a very thick, mousse-like texture so that it will sit on top of the milk. It is said that you're supposed to whip it 400x to get it to the right consistency. However, new recipes suggest using an electric mixer - which is totally cheating in our opinion, but to each their own.

What are you doing to stay sane indoors? Will you be attempting this challenge or will you be whipping up something new in the kitchen?

Only 3 months into 2020 and so much has happened. Things are kind of a mess right now amid the COVID-19 situation, but it's important to keep the positivity up because brighter days are coming!
